In EnvOE 9 we have been:

  • Practicing tying knots, hitches, and bends
    1. Why do we need these?  
    2. Where would they be useful?
  • Learning how to Snow Shoe!  
    1. Can you put on the snow shoes?
    2. What footwear is best to wear?
    3. What do you notice about the structure of the snow shoe?
    4. How is it different walking in them?
  • Remember to take care of them.  Please!

  • Snowshoeing!  We took our Snowshoes out for a test run.
    • What did you notice about the equipment?
    • How did you find walking in them?  
    • Did you have to adjust your balance?
    • What did your peers notice?
    • Can you name the different parts of a snow shoe?
    • Did we really have enough snow?
    • How well were you dressed for outdoor activity?  REMEMBER LAYERS

SNOW!

In EnvOE 9 We:
  • Had a presentation by Avalanche Canada about safety and avalanches.  What did you learn?  How does this change your your trip planning.
  • Did some cooperative games.  How did it go?  How was it communicating without talking?  Why might that skill be important?
  • Reviewed HOTTEA.
  • Examined extreme survival skills based on the events of 127 Hours.  This is the story of Aron Ralston.  An outdoor enthusiast.  What did you learn from this story?  How would HOTTEA have helped Aron?
